Remember Fire?

Do kids play with fire anymore? I don’t want this to be a hacky post about how great it was to be a child back in the day, but I feel like kids are missing out on fire. I was by no means a pyromaniac but I was definitely a pyro-enthusiast.

I often forget how much of my youth was spent setting things on fire just to see what would happen. Well, that’s not entirely true; i knew what was going to happen.  It was more about just destroying shit.

They say, “If you play with fire you are going to get burned.” That is bullshit. If you aren’t careful you will, but even then I wasn’t careful when I played with fire and I never got burned. Seriously I probably should have spent at least 1/3 of my youth in a burn ward. I remember pouring gasoline on one end of a NERF football, lighting it on fire and throwing it. No burns.  I poured gasoline into our pond, lit it on fire and jumped through it. No burns. The closest I ever got to being burned was when I was learning to put matches out on my tongue. Yeah I did that. I was in 7th grade I was home alone with my friend Grant and we spent at least an hour lighting matches then putting them out on our tongue. No burns.

Fire is a lot of fun. You don’t have to be an irresponsible adolescent to enjoy fire. A lot of my favorite memories involve sitting around a fire outside. Writing this I am excited about spring just because I want to sit around a fire with friends and shoot the shit.

Fire is probably why people smoke. When people start smoking they are just trying to show the world they are cool cause they don’t mind a little bit of fire right near their face. The first person that ever smoked anything must have gotten so much pussy. Imagine it. Fire is this thing used to cook your food and keep you warm and you see this dude breathing it in? It had to make the ladies pelts so moist.

I checked out youtube and found out kids do in fact still play with fire.

These kids didn’t really know what they were doing when it came to setting a tennis ball on fire. They could also use a lesson in simple video editing.

These folks seem to have it figured out a little better.

I was really hoping as he ran after the ball at the end of the video he was hit by a car like this old classic.

Fire is amazing. I think I am going to go dunk some tennis balls in gasoline, set them on fire and throw them in the snow…you know, just for old times sake.
